The actress-politician Aiko Melendez – Mary Aiko Shimoji Melendez in real life – is over the moon with joy after she earned a degree in BA Major in Communication Arts from the Philippine Women’s University.
Aside from acting stints, Aiko, who’s turning 48 in December, currently serves as a councilor of Quezon City from the 5th district.
In a Facebook post, she shared bits about her college journey; attaching a number of photos taken from the graduation ceremony.
She shared that her diploma is the best gift she could ever give her mother as well as her children, Andrei and Marthena.
It may have taken her many years to achieve her diploma dream, she added, but it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that she achieved her goal.
“My Diploma. I may have achieved a lot already in life but nothing comes close to this.. Thank you Lord! How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. This is the beginning of everything I want.”
She’s encouraging others to dream on and achieve, too! “If you can dream it, you can make it so. So to all the dreamers like me never stop!”
She also expressed her next goal… hopefully she gets to her Masteral Degree too.

In another FB post, she narrated how much of a challenge it had been to manage her time as an artist, a public sservant, a mother and a daughter to her own mom.
She shared, “Mukhang madali ang lahat pero sa totoo lang naiisip ko ngayon paano ko napag sabay sabay lahat?… Paano nga ba? Kasi natuto akong pahalagahan ang mga bagay na dapat nuon ko pa nabigyan ng pansin pero bakit nga ba ngayon lang? Kasi inuna ko muna tuparin ang mga Pangarap ko para sa pamilya ko. Ang mabigyan sila ng kumportableng buhay. Ngayon na maayos at meron silang simple at di kumplikadong buhay pangarap ko naman ang tinupad ko ang makatapos ng pag aaral. Bukod sa pagiging artista ako po ay nanay ng dalawang bata na maayos din ang pagpapalaki ko at ng nanay ko. Ako din ay isang Public servant na wala ding oras halos sa sarili ko kung matatawag pero kinaya ko dahil ginusto ko. Dahil ayaw ko dumating ang araw na balikan ako ng mga anak ko na bakit ginagapang ko ang pag aaral nila sa magandang eskwelahan ako ay di tapos.”
Ngayon eto na po… Legit na to. Pinaghirapan, pinagpuyatan at madami ding Proyekto bilang artista ang natanggihan namen ni mader Ogie Diaz ngayon handa na ako muli sumabak sa pag aarte bago po ako mag masteral muli at mag aral! Salamat din sa aking nanay na halos maluha kanina sa tuwa dahil pangarap nila ng Daddy Dan Castaneda na makatapos ako, eto na mama Elsie Castaneda kumpleto na ang blankong frame sa bahay ng diploma ko malalagyan mo na mama !
